The SENCO is a demanding and rewarding post with many leadership aspects and responsibilities. Tasks such as: organising professional development of staff, engaging parents/carers and providing the best individual academic opportunities for all pupils with special educational needs along with many others are all part of the job. The requirements of the role are covered in the National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordination.
The ACTS schools can offer support in addition to this through their school to school support offers and the fact that some of the Specialists Leaders of Education (SLEs) attached to them are SENCOs. Use the members page to get in touch with a teaching school near you.
